About MVM

Maharishi Vidya Mandir Schools, Chennai-31 came into existence in the year 1983 with Yogasana, Pranayama and Transcendental Meditation as the integral part of the Curriculum, with a motto, “Knowledge is structured in Consciousness”, as advocated by our spiritual Guru and founder His Holiness Maharishi Mahesh Yohiji..
Within a short spell of 34 years, the MVM Group of schools developed on the wings of success and earned a reputation in maintaining the educational standards.
New ventures and experiments promote the holistic development. The activities in Scholastic and Co-Scholastic domain are manifold. Be it Academics, Special Activity or Cultural Fiesta, Service Movements, Sports, Technology aided learning and Personality Development, there is total response in promoting the awareness of the students in each and every branch of learning processes.
Since, the Silver Jubilee Year 2007-2008, hardly a year passes without enlarging the scope of professional excellence. The Group of Institutions established in and across the State of Tamil Nadu are under the ambit of Maharishi Vidya, Chetpet, Chennai. The Management is sparing no effort in realizing this vision, as the emphasis is laid in developing the capacity of innovations for intellectual growth.

Our Founder

A great sage, His Holiness Maharishi Mahesh Yogi is the founder of Transcendental Meditation, the Science of Creative Intelligence and the illuminating Force for all the Maharishi Vidya Mandir Schools in India. Born on 12th January, 1917 at Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, is one of the foremost teachers of Meditation. Since he began teaching meditation in 1955, his Transcendental Meditation (TM) movement witnessed rapid growth and since then TM is being practiced by an estimated 10 million people. A worldwide movement known as “Spiritual Regeneration Movement” (SRM) was initially established at Chennai by Maharishiji in 1957 with a view to transform the life of all human beings.

Consciousness based Education, introduced in 1971 by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, is unique in its ability to effectively develop the total brain potential of every student. Consciousness – Based Education, awakens and integrates the total brain through regular practice of Transcendental Meditation. It automatically develops coherent brain functioning, bringing holistic benefits to all aspects of student's life. Maharishiji is responsible for the transformation of time – from the Age of Ignorance to the Age of Enlightenment, from a time of Darkness, Suffering and Problem to a Glorious New Civilization for all mankind, in short `A Heaven on Earth'.

About Thiruvarur

Thiruvarur is one of the traditional capitals of the "Chola Empire".The histroical name of thriuvarur is Aaroor (Arur). It is commonly called the "Granary of South India" lies the delta region of the river "Cauvery". The town has been believed a significant Antiquity ruled by medieval Cholas, pandas, the Vijayanagar empire, Marathas, and the British. The famous Thyagaraja temple is well known in Thiruvarur district weighing 300 tonnes, (660,000 ib) and measuring about 90 feet(27 m)tall, the chariot in our State.

It is said to be an eminent region of arts, science and religion. Agriculture is the main occupation of Thiruvarur, more than 70% of people depend on agriculture. It is said to be a rice bowl of Tamil Nadu, whereas paddy is the main principle crop of the district. The mangrove forest in Muthuppetai in Thiruvarur gives nature's beauty to the district.

Thiruvarur is also well know for Birht place of Carnatic Trinity.Hundreds of musicians and music enthusiasts congregated every year at Thiruvarur to pay a lyrical homage to the famed Carnatic music trinity that was born in a glorious period in Tiruvarur.

Men and women musicians glorified Saint Tyagaraja, Sri Shyama Sastri, and Sri Muthuswami Dikshitar who enriched Carnatic music with their rich repertoire of kritis that have lived to date.

Thiruvarur Chariot

Kulothunga Chola enlarged the temple ritual to have fifty-six festivals, in the ancient period. It is celebrated during April - May. It is the largest of its kind in Asia and India. The chariot festival is followed by "Theppam".

It is one of the most ancient festivals of the Tamil peoples that still carries the ritual and traditions associated with the Thyagaraja Swamy temple. The lord "Veethividangar" is called the Thiyagarajaswami (lord shiva), with his consort "kondi" bless the devotees in the world's biggest chariot. It is about 96 feet tall and weighs about 300 tons. The month of "Panguni" is officially called the spring season of Tamil Nadu. A colorful season that many temples in the state organize their annual festivals around this panguni uttiram, the full night that falls on the uttiram star. The superior attraction is the annual celebrations of the Sri Thiyagarajaswamy temple at Tiruvarur which is conducted for 55 days as a monumental event in thiruvarur.

Trinity of Carnatic Music

Trinity of Carnatic Music

The three jewels of Carnatic music is called as the Tyagaraja, Muthu Swamy Dikshitar and Syama Sastri who are the legend composer in Carnatic music during the period 18th century. They brought a new era in history on Carnatic music by bringing noticeable changes in the Carnatic tradition. The Trinity of Carnatic music is recognized by distinct in style, in their original handling of "RAGAS". These peoples are from the Thanjavur background in Tamil Nadu.

Compositions:
Muthuswami Dikshitar composed his music in "SANSKRIT" and Manipravalam (Tamil and Sanskrit). Tyagaraja and Syama Sastri composed their music in "TELUGU".

Rags and Talas:
Syama Sastri has composed his music in "APOORVA" ragas (Chintamani and kalagada) brought evidence and originality in discovering the new forms of Carnatic music. During the contest which took place in the "COURT OF THE KING" in Thanjavur, kesavayya sang which is followed by the tana in different jathis and gathis. Syama Sastri reproduced the tana varieties.
